David Staveley


Key Achievements

Masters Swimming: David is the current National (British) Champion at 200 m Backstroke in his age group; previously also champion at 100 m Individual Medley; held S. African All Comers Record for 50 m Butterfly & winner of events at their championships in the past; Holder of several Kent Masters records past & present; Top Masters Swimmer Award for Kent in 2012

Swimming: Swam backstroke for British Universities back in the 1960’s.

Other: member of the Birmingham University Track & Field Team that came second in the National Universities Championships (Pole Vault) back in the 1960’s.

Future Goals

Continue with Masters Swimming as an active competitor & involvement with the Kent Masters Committee & on the executive of the East Invicta ASA.


Age: 73

David is a veteran swimmer who worked for the Folkestone Charity Mission Aviation Fellowship for many years as a pilot & aircraft engineer both overseas & in the UK. He continues to take a keen interest in their activities & supports them in whatever way he can.

David is also a STEM Ambassador for promoting Science & Technology in Schools – including as an ambassador for the Bloodhound Car which aims to break the world land speed record & reach 1000mph next year in S. Africa.
