Ian was born in Ashford and attended the Norton Knatchbull school, which is where he started racing his bike through a school team aged 12. He competed locally, nationally and finally aged 16 represented Great Britain as a junior internationally. From aged 14, he has trained in the local area taking in a lot of the Shepway area, known for its great training roads. Ian left school and joined the British Cycling mountain bike academy based in Manchester, where he learnt from the some of the UK’s top coaches. He represented GB at both mountain biking and Cyclocross during these years, before leaving the academy aged 21. From here, he started out to become a professional Cyclocross rider, achieving this goal 2 years later and has been competing ever since.
