Our Communications Officer blogs about why she wants to get back in the saddle this summer. Tweet your #SummerSportResolution to @ShepwayST -we’d love to feature you!
‘I have been horse riding for over twenty years, with a few gaps here and there. I absolutely love the sport (especially popping a few jumps). It can be really intimidating to go to a new yard and start riding again, especially if you aren’t feeling body confident or at peak fitness. My Summer Sport Resolution is to start horse riding again, at least once a week. I have also made a conscious effort to make sure I ride at every place I go to on holiday (most recently Ireland and Devon).
I’m lucky enough to have found a lovely yard in Shepway at Horton Riding Centre. Most importantly, my riding teacher is very encouraging and friendly. There are also great initiatives like the Alkham Valley Project, offering friendly, welcoming and affordable lessons for ‘Rusty Riders’.
My advice to anyone who is thinking about either trying or re-igniting their inner jockey is to try out a couple of yards until you find ‘the one’. I can guarantee that once you’re back in the saddle you will be completely hooked!’
