Shepway Sports Trust Set To Deliver ‘Spirit of Rugby’ Project Across Folkestone

Shepway Sports Trust has been tasked with coordinating the ‘Spirit of Rugby’ project across Folkestone.  Spirit of Rugby is a two year project run by England Rugby, thanks to a grant from Spirit of 2012 Trust, which aims to enable 16-24 year olds to create and develop projects  to  encourage participation within their peer group, as well as increasing community engagement in ‘hard to reach’ areas.

Up to £30,000 of funding has been allocated to the area to get more young people playing and volunteering in rugby.

As the key local stakeholder, Shepway Sports Trust will mentor young volunteers to bring the Spirit of Rugby project to life in Folkestone.

This is an extremely exciting opportunity for the district and follows the success of the Shepway Sports Trust and England Netball ‘Tri-Fusion Netball’ project, which saw an overall increase in netball participation across the district.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite applications from volunteers for the Spirit of Rugby project. Volunteers can be from any background or skill set- from those who are seasoned rugby enthusiasts to people with no prior knowledge of the sport.

The project will run between April 2016 and June 2017 and there will be a real opportunity for volunteers to shape the way it comes to life in our area. If you are 16-24 years old and motivated to make a real difference to the local area we want to hear from you. Volunteers will need to be able to commit 3-5 hours per week and in return will receive the opportunity to be a part of this exciting project as well as the chance to gain coaching, leadership and other relevant qualifications.
