Shepway Sports Trust Welcomes New Ambassador

Will Mead

Since the close of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Shepway Sports Trust have seen a surge in applications for our ever-popular ambassador scheme. We are lucky enough to have a roster of elite athletes from a diverse variety of ages, genders and sports- all with their own stories and experiences to share with the younger generation, inspiring them to push further towards their goals.

We were recently delighted to welcome Will Mead to our ambassador programme as a silver ambassador.  Will is a 14-year-old hockey player who started taking part in hockey at age 10 with Shepway Sports Trust Club of the Year, Folkestone Optimist Hockey Club. He began competing at County level when he was just 12 years old, joining a men’s team at 13 and moving to Regional competition at 14. Will’s ambassador application was particularly interesting as he takes a strong interest in the coaching side of sport, regularly teaching the Folkestone Optimist Junior Hockey Club at under 8 level.

Will’s future goals include selection for England under 16s, participating in the Youth Olympics and ultimately playing in the senior 2024 Olympic team for Great Britain. Inspiring to see such ambition and all within the realms of possibility for this talented young man.
